Welcome to Ted Shred's

FAQ

1.    Why is the flame melting the plastic on top of my jar candle?

A melting plastic seal on the 32oz jar candle could be attributed to a number of things. A draft in the room or an off center wick. Make sure that the wick is centered, and trimmed to a 1/4”. If this persists remove the plastic seal before burning again.

2.    Do you use lead wicks?

Ted Shred’s Original Surfwax Candle Co. does not use lead wicks in any of our candle products. Some of our candles contain zinc core wicks. Zinc core wicks have many advantages over 100% cotton wicks. They are easier to relight, and they will not submerge as easily as cotton wicks, also zinc core wicks are 100% environmentally safe.

3.    I spilled wax on my carpet! How do I remove it?

When the wax has hardened, gently remove the larger pieces of wax. Get a clean paper towel and place it over the wax spill. Using an iron on a low setting warm the paper towel. The wax will begin to melt and soak up into the towel. Blot the wax and repeat as necessary until wax is removed. We highly recommend consulting the fabric manufacturers instructions before trying this method of extraction.

4.    Why do candles fade in color?

If you place your candles in direct sunlight, or it is exposed to strong lights. Your candles will fade in color. Place your candles in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.

5.    Why does my pillar candle overflow?

This occurs when the wax pool becomes too deep. We recommend extinguishing pillars every two hours. When the wax solidifies relight the candle.

6.    What should I do if my candle smokes?

Smoking will occur whenever candle flame is disturbed, which allows minute particles of unburned carbon(soot) to escape from the flame. To minimize candle flickering, trim the wick to 1/4” before lighting, place-burning candles away from vents, drafts, or any other strong air currents. If a candle continues to significantly flicker or noticeably smoke it should be extinguished. Allow it to cool, trim wick , check for drafts, then relight.

Safety Tips

1.   Candles should always be burned within sight.

2.   Never leave a burning candle unattended.

3.   Never burn a candle on or near anything flammable.

4.   Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

5.   Read and follow all manufactures instructions carefully.

6.   Trim the wick to 1/4” each time before burning.

7.   Always use an appropriate Ted Shred’s candleholder for pillar on a stable heat resistant surface.

8.   Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers or the flame becomes too high. Cool, trim wick, check for drafts and re-light.

9.   Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

10.   Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.

11.   Extinguish the flame if it comes too close to the holder or container. For the margin of safety , discontinue burning pillar candles when two inches of wax remains, or it has reached the Ted Shred’s band(1/2” in the jar or tin).

SHIPPING POLICY

Before we get into specifics, let us be clear on our shipping "philosophy":

  • We want to get things to you as quickly as humanly possible;
  • To keep things simple, we offer “flat rate” shipping on every product on our site every day;
  • Under-commit; and over-deliver.

Our primary shipping service is UPS Worldship. Both are "ground" services that take 5-7 business days from coast-to-coast (many of our products ship from our primary warehouse in Costa Mesa, CA).

Delivery Time

Delivery Time is dependent on 2 factors:

  1. "Availability". Every product detail's page will show a value similar to "Usually Ships in 2-3 days". It is also noted in the Shopping Cart, and informs you of how quickly an item will be ready to ship out. For example, some items will ship within 24 hours, others in a couple days, while some may take as many as several weeks (especially custom products). The "Availability" value is an estimate. We do our best to ship items out as quickly as possible, so we often get orders out more quickly than is noted by the "Availability" timeframe, but please do not count on that.
  2. The method of delivery - our shipping method is UPS Worldship which generally takes 3 business days.
  1. Additionally, please note that delivery time is also based on "business" days. For example, if you place an order on Sunday, it's impossible for us to ship an item the same day as all the shippers are closed.

Free Shipping Offers

100% of the products on our site include a shipping rate. This offer applies to "Standard Shipping" which will be UPS (5-7 days for cross-country delivery). Free shipping promotions may be available on certain items and will only be available on domestic shipments only.

Calculating Cost

Shipping costs are calculated on the website automatically during Checkout based on a flat rate for the items you are purchasing.

International Shipping

If you'd like to make a purchase and have it shipped internationally, please send us an email at service

Be sure to include a list of the products you'd like to purchase, your shipping address, phone number, and the email address to which we should send your invoice.
